I’m a producer, mix engineer, guitarist, composer, and sound designer, originally from Seattle, now based in New York City.

I had so many formative musical experiences before (and after) becoming a professional: years of study with the Dhrupad master Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar, more years of studying Turkish music with Necdet Yaşar and others in Seattle and Istanbul, studying with Ralph Towner at the Naropa Institute and then spending a great deal of time with him in Seattle in the early 1980s. And of course decades in the Guitar Craft circle, and with Karin Coonrod and the remarkable theater artists and designers she gathers around her. I am forever grateful to Music for what, and where, and who it has brought me. My work is to reflect that back out into the world.
I’ve spent my career between the studio and the stage. As a producer and mix engineer I’ve made records with Patrick Smith, The Crown, Zero Times Everything, Doble Vida, Kelli Rae Powell, and Sun Palace. I also produced The Hellboys’ A Young Person’s Guide to Hell, featuring Robert Fripp, Tony Levin, and Bill Rieflin.
As a guitarist I’ve been an instructor with Guitar Craft since 1985. I’ve recorded with Robert Fripp and the League of Crafty Guitarists, Toyah, The Trey Gunn Band, and Markus Reuter, and released a solo 12-string album, Native of the Rain, on Discipline Global Mobile. My playing has ranged from the Turkish trio Dostlar to the New York Indonesian Consulate Gamelan.
I’ve taught guitar and music across the U.S. and Europe. I co-founded the Seattle Circle Guitar School and co-directed the DrumTime rhythm workshop. From 2009 to 2018 I directed the New York Guitar Circle, including multiple performances in New York City. In 2018 I was one of the founding facilitators of Creating Music Together, Craig Shepard’s collaborative composition retreat series for Music for Contemplation, where professional composers and beginners write and perform new music together.
